a long weekend but a great cause…

Morri here and I’m dropping all IC context for this post.  About 2-3 weeks ago while I was totally exhausted when Kyle W Forrester (our Fire Chief) says to me “Doc, I want to do a fundraiser for Toys for Tots.”  I had just gotten out of oral surgery IRL and was feeling pretty “not low” at the time and told him “Do I have to do any work for it” – I was burned out, had a bunch of rl things on my plate and was just mentally and physically exhausted.

Kyle told me “Nah, we got it all covered” and to his credit, he and Kira (His fiance and an amazing Hostess and all-around wonderful lady) did just that.

As I write this late on Dec 20, the total raised over this weekend is hovering over 112K Lindens and it may actually get higher than that.  The display is adorable and folks keep paying this kiosk.  (There’s still time to do so if you’d like to come down and contribute but missed the chance this weekend.) We’re all touched and there’s a good chance a few of us have torn through our box of kleenex each over the last two days.  From 10am Saturday and Sunday mornings to 10pm each… with it have some little 1 linden donations up to one particular individual donating 30K Lindens because it’s ‘the right thing to do’ to paraphrase.

Now Kyle likes to come across as abrasive and hard-nosed, but the reality is he is one of the kindest-hearted fellas you’ll ever come across.  Now as I type this – I can hear him telling me to hush and not ruin his reputation, but honestly, our community was really fortunate the day he went looking for a home for the Liberty Fire Department.

He and his lady are an amazing team, and we are thankful that they organized this.

Along the course of the weekend, new folks have found us, and an unexpected consequence was LC may have new citizens and has definitely made new friends.  We’re pretty happy about those too, but our overwhelming delight has been our little rustic town and saloon being able to make a positive difference.  The regions of Lincoln County and Montana North are all about positivity and having fun – because frankly if you don’t do that you are wasting time in Second Life.

Next year – we’ll do it all over again, and we’ll do it in the same place.  We’ll just start planning it earlier and seeking more sponsorships and prizes.  We want to thank everyone who’s donated or given their time – or even the amazing sponsorships – those prizes will be announced later when the winners are announced.

Merry Christmas, we’re so honored to have been able to do this and we will jump at the opportunity next year too.

So Lake County didn’t work out but we’re not done growing.

Morri here…

We’re going slow and not rushing our growth.  We’ve been around since April ’19 and we’ll be here come April ’21 and so on and so forth.

Don’t worry – we’re not going anywhere!  We have some amazing things coming in the next few months and we invite you to keep up here and join us in Cloudcroft and Bozeman.  It’s autumn and many of us have some real life commitments this month and next but expect to see major changes starting in mid December.

An OOC Statement to our greater community.

a note from one of our founding community members

Dear Friends,

Wednesday, September 16 was a crazy day for our community.  We know a lot of people felt like they had the rug pulled out from under them.  Our neighboring region, Niseru, which held Lake County, was sold with what seemed to them to be no warning, and if you weren’t in the right place at the right time to hear the sim owner on record with LindenLabs say that he could only handle so much drama, then yes it was an entirely unexpected shock. In Character – it’s just simple enough to say it was a seismic disturbance. Colorado and New Mexico don’t get earthquakes often, but when they get them they are a surprise.

The owners at large did not know there was a pending sale until it was too late for any of us to put in a bid and everyone had been told to get their belongings before the new owners occupied the region.  This left people feeling adrift, abandoned, and in a world where RL has enough crisis going on between natural disasters and a pandemic, horribly cut off and alone.

We are more than just one region though – 6 weeks ago we became a greater community with two other regions joining with Niseru.  This means you’re not cut off and alone despite potentially feeling like it… Lake County’s community spirit lives on, and when LL allows us to buy more regions, if we’re able to and there is a need for it, we will expand.  In the meantime  – folks are moving over to the Lincoln County NM and Montana North Regions.  The community names are Cloudcroft and Bozeman, we also have Ruidoso, Mystic Lake, & The Lincoln Forest – making it 5 regions out of two.  Bozeman and Cloudcroft remain our main towns.

A ride on the train will help you understand better if this is confusing. Each of these communities/regions actually has a train station, and any new sims we add will have train stations as well, physically connecting us.

Some facts you may have questions about:

  • Our era – current modern

  • Our theme – a little more rustic than you may be used to, but it’s still 2020 – no special clothing unless your job requires a uniform.

  • Do we have metered rp: Currently no.  This will be a community decision when it is made.

  • Do we expect storylines and plot and whodunnits while we remain family-friendly? Yes.

  • Are we adding more houses as many are already rented out?  Yes.  We’re working as fast as we can.
  • Economy: Uses RolePay system – your account from before still works, but you will want to get a new bank card.

  • Community Services:  We have a Sheriff’s dept and an under-construction hospital.  We will expand and have EMS, FD, & a functionings School ASAP.  This depends on time to get the buildings in and then folks to fill those roles.  We also will need a County Clerk who will process birth certificates, track court cases and be your location to pay “taxes/tickets” – all in roleplay money of course.

Our ownership team is as follows:

  • Founding Members:  Jaime Morrison & Dr. Morrigan Horten

  • Equity Members: Leroy Horten, Sarah Horten, Bellalina Bellisserian & Cristal Troubador

Bella and Cristal will be helping with day to day running, Leroy and Morri will continue as we have, Morri is our Sim’s Project Manager, but if you come to her with an issue, you might find you’ve been asked to work with Leroy, Bella, Cristal or Sarah.

Sarah’s primary role is making sure the sim is kid-friendly, and she manages Cloudcroft Radio.  She is accepting advertisements for your businesses in the regions and can help you with what you need to do for purchasing commercial air time if you run a business here.

All funds donated/paid in rent to the sim go to helping build the sim further (buildings/roads/scenery/the latest most awesome mesh etc, sim promotion for classifieds, advertisement boards/promotion) or paying for musicians.  We actually help support some of these musicians financially as online performing is their only safe income in the face of COVID-19.  This is where your rent goes – back into the community to make things better for our community.

We encourage you to join us for a community meeting in the town hall in Cloudcroft on Saturday, September 19 at 12pm.  We’ll discuss all the above, community rules, plus how you can fit in and help direct the community.  We are self-governing and our Mayor’s job will be up for election soon.

Everyone has a voice here, and we want to hear yours.

Sincerely,

Dr. Morrigan Horten on behalf of the Ownership team in the LC Associated Sims

Miss Mariel’s Biscuits and Sausage Gravy in Five Easy Steps
1. Bake biscuits according to the way your Mama taught you. Lard makes a better biscuit then butter, and bacon drippings are not recommended for this. Save those for another dish.
2. Cook 1 pound of sausage in large cast iron skillet over medium heat 5-6 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently.
3. Sift in 1/4 a cup of flour. Gradually add milk; cook until mixture comes to a boil and thickens, stirring constantly.
4. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
5. Split biscuits in half. Place 2 halves on each of 8 plates; top with about 1/3 cup gravy.

North Pole Train to run only until January 1
Leroy Horten of the Montana North Rail Road has stated that we have been granted the exclusive right of way to the North Pole. The Christmas Express is now taking non-stop tours to the City of the Elves!
The train runs about every 20 minutes. It offers a Holiday decorated dining car and takes you high to the north and into a newly opened tunnel.  Board the Christmas Express at the Billings Station in Montana North. Busy elves have created a magical tunnel to their home in front of the Billings station. To take their special short cut to the North Pole, walk into the candy cane.

School with Miss Bly
Miss Bly would like to remind her students that they have an ongoing creative writing exercise based on
“The Jaguar and the Girl.” Students are recommended to review their notes from the last class they attended to prepare and to be ready for a pleasant learning experience.

St. Brendan’s is Consecrated
On December 23 the Diocese Archbishop, Laurence Ramirez, was in Cloudcroft to consecrate our Catholic Church to God and to perform a full Catholic Service at the Parish.

He also dedicated the Catholic Parish to St. Brendan and asked for him to intercede for us. This very special Mass was held at 10:45AM Monday, December 23 in St. Brendan’s Church up on the hill on Church Street. All of good faith are welcome to attend services in the Parish.

Cloudcroft Community Church and Parsonage Erected
Neighbors on Church Street heard an awful lot of noise this week, as with the new orphanage, and the renovations on the old church building, our Community church got a new building and Parsonage as well.

Reports were that Reverend Justy Moonwall was highly pleased with the new facility, and his first sermon in the building on December 22 was on the subject of “Love.” The new pews are able to seat a family of four each and the piano is now up near the pulpit. Miss Natalie Horton continues to be the featured church soloist.

Cloudcroft gets it’s first fire station!
After the fire at the old Gunsmith’s destroyed the building, our mayor, Johnny Heartland, wisely put out a call far and wide, and Fire Chief Grant Monroe submited his resume and was hired for the job in Cloudcroft.

Please join us all in welcoming Fire Chief Grant Monroe to our community. We look forward to his presence in our town and hopefully protection against the random fires that have broken out.
